Sometimes families are suddenly told: “Home may no longer be safe.”

These situations can feel overwhelming — especially when decisions need to happen quickly.

Nevada Care Compass helps families throughout Northern Nevada better understand their options, evaluate realistic next steps, and move forward with more informed decisions during stressful transitions.

When Everything Starts Happening at Once

Families are often trying to process:

• Medical updates
• Discharge timelines
• Safety concerns
• Caregiver exhaustion
• Unfamiliar care options
• Emotional family conversations
• Pressure to make decisions quickly

At the same time, they may begin receiving multiple calls from communities, agencies, and providers before they fully understand what type of help is actually needed.

We help simplify the process by helping families narrow realistic options, understand available support, and determine appropriate next steps based on care needs, budget, timing, and safety concerns.

It’s unclear whether assisted living or memory care is appropriate

Every family situation is different.

Sometimes additional support at home may still be realistic. Other times, increasing care needs may require a safer or more supportive environment.

Our role is to help families better understand the options before making rushed decisions.

When Things Start to Change

Understanding Senior Living & Care Options

Many families facing urgent situations have never navigated senior care services before.

We help families better understand:

• Assisted living
• Memory care
• Residential care homes
• In-home support options
• Levels of care
• Typical costs
• Transition considerations
• What may or may not be realistic based on the situation

The Goal is Not Pressure.

The goal is helping families make informed, thoughtful decisions during emotionally difficult moments.

Understanding Senior Living Options

Many families are navigating senior living decisions for the very first time and are unsure where to begin.

We help families better understand the differences between:

Residential Care Homes

We help families evaluate what level of support may or may not be appropriate based on safety concerns, care needs, mobility, memory changes, social needs, budget, and long-term planning considerations.

Families work directly with Nevada Care Compass throughout the process, helping simplify communication and reduce unnecessary stress during urgent transitions.

Families Don’t Need More Calls.

They Need Clarity.

Many online senior living search websites distribute family information to multiple communities or providers at once, often resulting in repeated phone calls, ongoing sales outreach, and unnecessary overwhelm during already stressful situations.

We work differently.

As a local Northern Nevada resource, we help families better understand their situation first — then thoughtfully guide communication and referrals based on what appears most appropriate for the family’s specific needs, goals, budget, and timeline.

testimonial

Tamsen was very helpful in assisting me to find a group home for my mom.

She listened to my needs, the area I wanted her to be located within her budget. She set up a day and time to meet with the home owner and went with me to tour the home.

She asked pertinent questions for me and answered all of my questions. She has continued to follow up with me on getting everything necessary to get mom moved into the home.

She's very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and really cares about helping both the person needing assistance and their families.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q.) How quickly can you help us?

A.) Same-day and next-day appointments are often available. If your loved one is facing a hospital or rehab discharge, call or text me directly at 775-443-8046 and I will prioritize your situation.

  • Q.) What if we need to move quickly and don't have time to tour communities?

A.) I can narrow your options to the most appropriate communities based on care needs and location, and coordinate tours on short notice. In urgent situations, I can also help you understand what to ask and what to look for so you feel confident even under time pressure.

  • Q.) What is the difference between assisted living and a residential care home?

A.) Assisted living communities are larger licensed facilities with professional staff, structured programming, and on-site amenities. Residential care homes (also called group homes) are smaller private homes, typically 2 to 10 residents, that provide a more intimate, home-like setting. Both can be excellent options depending on your loved one's needs, personality, and budget. I help families understand which environment is the right fit.

  • Q.) Does Nevada Care Compass work with memory care communities?

A.) Yes. Memory care is one of the most common needs I help families navigate. I have 15 years of professional experience inside memory care communities and can help families understand what to look for, what questions to ask, and how to evaluate the quality of care.

  • Q.) Do you only work with families in Reno?

A.) I serve families throughout Northern Nevada, including Reno, Sparks, Carson City, Fernley, Fallon, and surrounding communities. If you are not sure whether I cover your area, just call or text and I will let you know.
